A very unique carpet. The crimson in the field and the light blue in the border is a common feature of rugs from northwestern Persian. However this carpet is know as a 'mental-weave'. Meaning it was woven without a pre determined pattern and the weaver relied on their own imagination and personal taste.
With mental-weave rugs its hard to say if the motifs carry a specific meaning. However there are refrances to 'tosbaqa' (tortoise) and 'qurbaqa' (frog) known as protective symbols. Other sections of the rug feature trees, birds, vases, flowers and pools (howz). A beautiful combination of the weavers culture and personal imagination.
